Does this sound like your relationship?
Arguments feel so familiar you can both predict the next line.
One of you talks (or yells); the other goes quiet. Both of you feel alone.
Things are civil, but the spark’s gone and you need help figuring out where it went.
Any of these is a good reason to start. You don’t need to be in crisis.
How the work goes:
Most couples arrive with relationship patterns they can describe but can’t interrupt.
One of you moves toward, the other moves away.
You both go quiet and the distance grows.
These aren’t communication problems — they’re protective responses learned long before you met.
Our work starts with attachment: the idea that we’re wired to seek closeness and to protect ourselves when closeness feels unsafe. Understanding what each of you is protecting against changes the argument entirely.
From there I tailor the approach to what you need.
Internal Family Systems, where each of you is invited to build a steadier relationship with your own inner parts — and to honor your partner’s.
Somatic work, attending to the story your body holds about this relationship and the ones that came before it.
What sessions look like:
We start with a check-in. How have things been? Anything left over from last time, or new since.
Often I’ll lead you through a brief grounding or mindful exercise — a way of noticing where stress is sitting in each of you and what your nervous systems need before we go further.
From there we take our time with the patterns that keep creating struggle between you, and the attachment wounds underneath them. These wounds formed in relationship, and they heal in relationship — which is why doing this work together matters.
We close by setting a focus for the week ahead. Some people call it homework; I think of it more as intention.
I know firsthand how draining and frustrating relationships can be, even with the people I love dearly. That’s part of why I do this work — I’m not standing outside the problem.
I’m a licensed counselor in Rhode Island, New York, Wisconsin, and Maine, and I’ve worked as a psychotherapist for 25 years, primarily in the area of relational trauma
Before that, I was an actor. I fell in love with the stage as a child because it let me step into someone else’s experience and live there for a while. This work is a continuation of that same reach.
About Me
Common Questions
I’m out of network, and I provide a superbill you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement. Many plans cover a portion of out-of-network mental health care once your deductible is met.
$250 for couples, $200 for individuals. Sessions are a full 60 minutes.
What does a session cost?
Do you take insurance?
Do you see couples in person or online?
In person in Providence, and by video for couples across Rhode Island. I’m also licensed in New York, Wisconsin, and Maine, and see couples by video in those states.
All sessions are a FULL hour. Most couples settle on every other week for attendance but in times of crisis, weekly sessions make good sense.
How long is a session, and how often do we come?
I invite couples to attend individually for a first session. This gives me a chance to focus in on what’s most important to you in your relationship. After that, you’ll meet me as a couple.
Do we both have to come every time?
Book a free 20-minute call. We’ll talk about what’s going on and whether I’m the right fit — no obligation. I respond to all inquiries within
